Mike Johnston

Mike Johnston is one of the world’s most renowned drum educators. His online course, MikesLessons.com, boasts more than 30,000 subscribers.

Inspired by a drum clinic by Mike in Dublin, and a subsequent conversation with him, we began to think about developing a unique residential drum camp. Fast forward a few years, and Mike structures the 21 Drums curriculum in a way that works for drummers of all abilities. He embodies what 21 Drums is all about, inspiring drummers of all levels to follow their passion and build their skills.

His skill as a drumming educator has been recognised with numerous accolades, including DRUM Magazine’s award for educational website of the year. Also, he received the Modern Drummer readers' poll award for educator/clinician of the year in 2016.

Mark guiliana

Mark Guiliana is a drummer with an impressive track record, and he has a vibrant, approachable personality too, making him the perfect mentor. Expect insightful drumming tips, and plenty of fun!

2016 was a stand-out year for Mark, with extensive touring to support his first acoustic jazz album (Family First). He also worked with trumpeter Dave Douglas, and saxophonist Donny McCaslin. In two-piece Mehliana, alongside keyboardist Brad Mehldau, he toured with renowned guitarist John Scofield.

Plus McCaslin’s group, in which Mark featured, was handpicked as the backing band on David Bowie’s twenty-fifth and final release, Blackstar, a much-lauded album.

keith carlock

Keith Carlock, one of the leading drummers of his generation, will join 21 Drums as our fourth mentor in 2018.

Voted top pop drummer, top fusion drummer, and best all-around drummer in a recent Modern Drummer poll, Keith has worked with some of the biggest names in music. The list includes John Mayer, Steely Dan, Toto, James Taylor, Christopher Cross, Donald Fagen, Walter Becker, Diana Ross, Faith Hill, The Blues Brothers Band, Harry Belafonte and many many more.

Keith was the first drummer to play on every track of a Steely Dan album, on 2003’s ‘Everything Must Go’. More recently he has been heaped with praise for his work on Steely Dan’s world tour, which has seen him tackling big tracks with consummate ease and touch. The Guardian, after a recent London show by Steely Dan, described him as "Buddy Rich, Keith Moon and Clyde Stubblefield rolled into one".

Keith Carlock came through to host a Musicmaker drum clinic in Dublin's Opium Rooms on 20th May 2016. Here's footage of the mind blowing improvised intro from that clinic. Enjoy!
